God exists in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. While each are God, the Son and Spirit live in willful submission to the Father. Each have distinct ways they reveal themselves to humankind. God has revealed himself in power and glory. We cannot behold him with the
human eye. Jesus was God in the flesh as he lived among us. The Spirit does not need a physical form and manifests himself in the lives of God’s followers. Each have a different role in heaven and on earth, yet, they are One. One in essence. One in character. One in truth. One in perpetuity.
Matthew 28:19-20; Matthew 3:16-17; John 14:9-10
Jesus is the Christ, the eternal Son of God, who died for the sins of the world and was raised to life on the third day. He was eternally existent before his birth and lived in harmony with the Father and Spirit. He was manifested on earth for a time in the form of Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus was fully God and fully man as he lived among us. In that form, he surrendered his life as a sacrifice for our sins. His blood brought about our redemption and forgiveness. His return from the dead is further proof of his godhead and power. Only
Jesus displayed the power of resurrection. We have the hope of resurrection because he
was resurrected.
1 Corinthians 15:1-8; John 3:16; John 20:24-31
The Bible is God’s inspired and authoritative revelation to all mankind. The Bible is unlike any other book on earth. It is a collection of God-inspired writings authored over 2500 years of human history. These writings have been accurately preserved over time. In the Bible we see God’s intention to build an eternal relationship with mankind. The Bible historically points out the downfall of man, and the redemption and salvation of God. The words are alive – being breathed by God. The words are eternally true. They form a guide, warning and prescription for how to live life in relationship with an almighty God.
2 Timothy 3:14-17; 1 Thessalonians 2:13
Every person has worth as a creation of God, but all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. God has created mankind in his own image. We have been created “very good” for the purpose of good works. Unfortunately, all people chose sin in their life. That sin needs to be removed (forgiven) to live the eternal life with God he designed. Without God’s help, humankind cannot redeem itself.
Romans 3:23; Psalm 139:13-14; Genesis 1:26-27
Forgiveness of sins, the Holy Spirit and eternal life are given to those who follow Christ our Savior and Lord. Forgiveness, eternal life and the Holy Spirit are gifts that we receive from God, not gifts that are earned. God gives them to us, not because we are good enough for them, but because we will never be good enough without them. He gives them to us in this relationship so that: out of God’s forgiveness for us, we can forgive others; out of The Spirit, our lives will grow and transform; and out of eternal life, we can live fearlessly in this present world. Those who follow Christ are given these gifts for our journey.
John 3:16; Romans 6:23
Those following Christ as Savior should repent of sin, confess faith, be baptized into Him, and live for Him. Following Christ with our life involves walking away from the broken way of life we once walked in. It involves professing our faith in him before others. Following Jesus involves baptism… more than just a symbol of our obedience but actually identifying ourselves to the world as those who are living as Jesus did (as seen in the way we die to ourselves, are buried in water, and rise to live a new life). Following Jesus is not a one-time decision, but a lifetime of decisions to walk in his ways.
Romans 3:23; Psalm 139:13-14; Genesis 1:26-27
The church is the body of Christ on earth and exists to evangelize the lost and equip the saved. The purpose of the church is to live out Jesus’ purpose while he was on earth. He developed disciples, and he revealed who God was to those who did not believe. As Christ’s body on earth, we embody his purposes. We need to teach and reach the lost. We need to continually mentor and equip those who are already following Jesus.
Matthew 28:18-20; Ephesians 4:1-7, 11-16
Jesus Christ will one day return to earth and reign forever as King of kings and Lord of lords. When Jesus returns, he will judge the world, resurrect the faithful, and usher in a new heaven and earth. The kingdom that we are a part of now will be fully realized. Jesus will be King over all of it. Those who did not wish him to be their king in this life, will get their eternal wish, and will live in hell outside of the presence of God. Those who made him Lord and King in this life we be reunited with him, and the spiritual (heavenly) and physical (earthly) kingdom of God will be made one.
